This new project synthesizes insights from a host of different fields including history, anthropology, sociology, Jungian psychology, philosophy, mythology, and general spiritual thought to explore the evolution of human spirituality from our primal ancestors to the uncertain future that lies ahead.  The basic idea is reflected in the three great symbols mentioned in the title.  The primal spirituality of our most distant ancestors was deeply rooted in the natural world and the energies of the body that are the realm of the Great Goddess.  The heroic ego who attempts to conquer the Goddess with his rationality and self-control is a newer entrant to our spiritual life.  Though he could never vanquish the Goddess, the struggles of the heroic ego have come to dominate our psyche and our lives, and perhaps to threaten our very survival. At this critical turning point, the symbol of the Buddha, and especially of the female buddha Tara, offers an opening to what may be the next stage of our spiritual evolution–a new synthesis that combines the natural power of the goddess and the heroic spirit of the ego, yet transcends them both in the vast awareness of the awakened mind.  Click Here to read the first chapter.
